Excited about this here and that there
Thick French Toast smothered with Utah blueberries, dripping in maple syrup, steaks, burgers, corn on the cob and some of my favorite ice cream. I love going home for so many reasons, my family, the food and well a lot of details that only exist there! You might say, "Wait..what? The food in America, how can you get excited over that?" Food in the States can have a pretty bad reputation in Europe, but there are just some things you can't beat.
We just ended a two week mega R.V. trip through the California, Nevada, and Utah. We ended at a Swiss owned R.V. Park in Cedar City, Utah. The owners offered a traditional Swiss breakfast, and my heart skipped with joy when I heard we were getting homemade braided bread, bircher müsli, and soft boiled eggs.
It sounds confusing that I might be excited about a Swiss breakfast in the States. The truth is an Expat starts missing everything everywhere, and I do mean everything! You miss character traits, smells, shops, architecture, family, friends, food, and much more. Once an Expat, always an Expat...it never really goes away.
I guess I could choose to be annoyed that I am constantly missing things. I choose instead to embrace life everywhere, which means I miss things and get overly excited about the silliest things; chocolate chips and brown sugar can even make my heart skip with joy!
